You can easily measure the distance between map objects/features in this mapping application. When you measure the distance between multiple features in succession, you can view the distance between each segment you measure as well as the cumulative total of all segments measured. For example, if you want to know approximately how far you travel from home to work, you could measure each major street leg of the trip and get a cumulative total.

Note: Click on any of the Popup Menu items below to view specific help for that topic.

To measure the distance between features, you first need to right-click in the mapping window and choose View > View Distance from the popup menu.

Click a starting point, and then pause the mouse pointer over a second point, or the end point of the first segment. When the pointer stops, the MapTip popup (the yellow box) displays the distance.

To measure a second segment, click the end point of the first segment, and then move the mouse pointer to the new point. To measure the distance from the second point to a third point, click the second point, and then pause the pointer over the third point. Continue clicking points and moving the mouse to measure segments.

The MapTip displays the distance between the last end point and the current position of the mouse, as well as the cumulative distance of all the segments you have measured.

When you have finished, click the right mouse button, double-click the left mouse button, or press the <ESC> key to end the View Distance function.
